Sustainability is central to our focus at Ecobuild, from the way we run our event to how we do business every day. It’s about who we source from and work with, what materials and energy we use, including printed collaterals, through to the build, breakdown and running of the show. Through our activities, messaging and partnerships we are committed to having a positive environmental and social impact on the communities and industries we work within.

Medite SmartPly - registration sponsor

MEDITE SMARTPLY, the market leading manufacturer of sustainable MDF and OSB panels, is delighted to be playing such a key role in Ecobuild for 2017.

The company will not only be bringing its innovative, environmentally friendly products to the show, but the products will also be used in the construction of the registration areas. Utilising its innovative range of MDF and OSB panels, the registration points also act as information centres, guiding visitors and providing assistance over the three days.

All of MEDITE SMARTPLY’s timber is sourced from its own FSC certified forests, which makes them the perfect partner for Ecobuild, investing in and sharing the vision for a sustainable, ethical future in construction. Not only is the raw material used in the manufacture of the products sustainable, but the products themselves contribute to the environment in their use. A prime example is its range of unique airtight boards that are specifically developed for use in low energy and Passivhaus construction.

Both the registration areas and exhibition stand will feature the launch of the MEDITE SMARTPLY ‘Wake Up and Smell the Coffee’ campaign, aimed at dispelling myths surrounding the use of timber panels in construction.

“This campaign focuses on a series of myth busting exercises. We want to continue leading the discussion on current industry themes ranging from illegal importation of timber, the perceived dangers of formaldehyde right through to the use of timber panels as flame retardant elements,” says Stuart Devoil, Head of Marketing and Brand at MEDITE SMARTPLY.

“Our experts will be on hand to eliminate any rumours and uncertainties, reinforced by facts and figures with examples from our own expertise.”

MEDITE SMARTPLY can be found on Stand D115. For more information on their products and capabilities you can find them online at www.mdfosb.com.

Waste from exhibitor stands has a significant impact on the show’s carbon footprint, with the bulk of stand build materials still going to landfill. We actively encourage our exhibitors to adopt sustainable approaches to stand design and build, minimising non-recyclable waste and introducing reusable modular system build, and materials that are reusable, recyclable or biodegradable.

Each year in partnership with the UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC), we invite exhibitors to enter the Sustainable Stand Awards. Key considerations in the stand design, build and preparations are:
carbon mitigation, stakeholder engagement, health and safety, material usage, waste management, community and charitable giving and sustainable procurement.

Previous winners include Dulux Trade, Norvento, SRE, Graf, BRE, Coillte and ACO.
Watch out for this year’s winners, revealed on Day 1 of the show.

Inspiring places, people and products

Ecobuild is the leading exhibition and conference for construction, design and energy in the built environment, attracting over 33,000 high calibre, senior level decision makers and influencers from architects and developers, to local government and major infrastructure clients.

Everyone at the venue, from exhibitors to contractors and visitors, can positively affect the sustainability of the event:

Travel – ExCeL is well connected via public transport, your best choice for low carbon impact. Alternatively, consider shared or low-emission transport.

Waste – use the recycling bins around the venue for paper, cans, plastic etc. If taking brochures away from the show, please recycle them when you’ve finished. Your plastic badge holder and lanyard can be reused, so hand them in to staff as you leave the halls.

Support – CRASH is our long term charity partner, working with homeless and vulnerable people in hostels and hospices across the UK. Find out more about their work on page 73 or www.crash.org

Ask – Do you know who you’re working with? Ask suppliers about their sustainability policy, initiatives and credentials.
