Back by popular demand, The Ecobuild Arena returned to the show floor with a cutting edge programme of high level discussion, debate, new thinking and challenging ideas from industry experts, ministers, lecturers and academics as well as a sprinkling of celebrity speakers and hosts.

What materials will the next generation of architects be using? Brand new for 2013, The Future Materials Gallery was a futuristic showcase of the most innovative new materials that will build the future.

Working with Nature

Reinforcing the importance of the natural environment in sustainable design and construction, Working with Nature brought together the following feature areas:

  • Green Infrastructure Partnership Pavilion, in association with DEFRA and the DCLG
  • Natural, Sustainable, daily interactive demonstrations covering a wealth of materials and techniques including straw bale construction, lime rendering, rammed earth, clay plaster and carpentry
  • The ever popular Biodiversity Pavilion, practical advice on how to create a rich biodiverse environment even in the grittiest urban environment

Practical Installer

Practical Installer was back in association with Plumb Center, allowing visitors to take advantage of live demonstrations on everything an installer needs to know about the growing demand for micro-renewable technologies. Major focus for 2013 was helping installers make the most of the Green Deal.

Solar Hub

Solar Hub returned with a brand new focus on the future of energy. Visitors heard the latest thinking, got practical guidance and advice from leading industry experts.

The Evolution of Light

The Evolution of Light feature, in association with PhotonStar, took visitors on a dynamic audio visual journey through light, providing them with essential information about our biological lighting needs, lighting energy challenges, and lighting in the future connected world.

Global Clients

A major new initiative, facilitated by Building magazine, brought together construction clients operating in different sectors and countries to understand, unite and showcase common challenges and opportunities. Ecobuild 2013 featured round tables, debates, networking and profiles of major global projects and innovations.

Cool Concrete

Imagine a world without construction materials! Cool Concrete invited visitors to see the story from cradle to cradle, and be amazed at what you could learn about sustainable construction materials by walking through four zones:

  • Construction Zone
  • Innovation Zone
  • Manufacturing Zone
  • Legacy Zone
