With so many variables involved, how can we benchmark a masterplan and judge its impact on the many different elements that contribute towards a truly sustainable development?

Sustainable masterplanning made easier

Sustainable masterplanning made easier

Wednesday 03 March
15.00 - 16.30 - Kensington Room

Hilson Moran’s workshop will explain how the Sustainable Built Environment Tool (SuBET), launched in October 2009, can be used to provide the highest level of analysis into the multiple impacts of masterplanning design.

Developed in conjunction with experts from Dundee and Reading Universities, SuBET offers a comprehensive rating scheme and assessment framework for the sustainability of a major masterplan, incorporating over 70 indicators of a scheme's environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts. Its focus ranges from the micro to the macro - including considerations specific to a particular building or project, together with wider urban and regional planning issues, right up to the impact on sustainability at national and international levels.

Representatives from the Sustainable Masterplanning Steering Group, all of whom were involved in the development of SuBET, will lead the session, and top architects will also be invited to present their views on sustainable masterplanning.
