As the market begins to grow, and as a variety of Government initiatives start to encourage the installation of micro renewable energy systems,  this series of seminars and training sessions  identified the business opportunity, explained the technologies, and described the business and commercial advantages of becoming trained and equipped to install and maintain micro generation systems.

10.30 – 11.30

Demystifying microgeneration technologies

Microgeneration systems are still relatively new but their deployment in the market is beginning to accelerate.  This session will provide an overview of both electricity-generating and heat-generating technologies, and then look specifically at those solutions which are successful in the UK market.  The audience will learn about the key features of each technology and the business and technical skills required to undertake the design and installation of microgeneration systems.

The business opportunity and how to take advantage of it

The microgeneration market is about to take off. The audience at this session will discover what business opportunities there are to be had and learn about incentives and drivers affecting the market, including the importance of Feed-in-tariffs (FiTs), the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP), and Renewable Heat Incentives.

Using existing skills and developing new ones: becoming equipped

This session will explain the ways in which existing skills can be enhanced to take advantage of the emerging opportunities in the microgeneration installation and maintenance market. SummitSkills, will provide advice and guidance on the current and forthcoming competence requirements for the installation of ‘Environmental Technologies’.  The NFRC will show how roofers can upskill and the advantages of working with the other trades.  And advice on the correct upskilling training programmes to meet current and future needs of the MCS and CPS will be also be provided.

Helping the householder to choose the best microgeneration solution

There are many factors affecting the selection of a suitable microgeneration solution, such as its ability to integrate with existing conventional systems, the physical building and site constraints, capital budget and lifetime maintenance implications. This session will cover a selection methodology for domestic properties using case studies and audience participation to demonstrate the process.
