Indeed his research and consultancy, undertaken in his part time role as Emeritus Professor of Surveying and Sustainable Housing, is increasing in its importance. His work on the characterisation of the performance gap in housing, its causes and potential solutions, has gained increased international recognition as the requirement for zero carbon buildings becomes one of the crucial goals of UK and European climate change policy. Malcolm’s work continues to be influential within Government and Industry both in the UK and across Europe. He is a Building Surveyor with over 30 years’ research experience in surveying and housing. He has co-authored two books on energy efficiency in housing, numerous journal and conference publications and has undertaken reviews of Part L of the Building Regulations and other major research reports for Government and major research organisations, including the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. He has led a number of UK Government and Zero Carbon Hub working groups on the building regulations and the implementation of zero carbon housing policy. His continuing research interests include technical and policy issues relating to the development of sustainable housing, in both new-build and existing stock renovation.
