Michael Portillo was a Conservative MP for about 20 years and a government minister for 11. He held three cabinet positions, including Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Secretary of State for Defence. He is now a broadcaster. He appears regularly on BBC1’s political programme “This Week” and Radio 4’s “The Moral Maze”. Two series of his “Great British Railway Journeys” have been shown on BBC2. In 2011 he is chairing the judges of the Museum Prize, having chaired the Man Booker prize in 2008.
