Irena Bauman

co-founder and Director, Bauman Lyons Architect, a specialist in leading complex projects and large regeneration teams, responsible for shaping national policy on many issues including sustainability, a fellow of RSA and a former CABE Commissioner

Irena Bauman is a practicing architect and a founding director of Bauman Lyons Architects Ltd, The practice has been concerned with the mitigation and adoption to Climate Change since its conception in 1992.

She is newly appointed Professor of Sustainable Urbanism at  Sheffield University School of Architecture, is the Chair of Yorkshire Design Review, Patron of Urban Design Group, a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts, a past Architectural advisor to Arts Council of England and past CABE Commissioner where, among other roles, she was the Chair of Research panel. She is also board member of IntegreatPlus and of LLISI (CIC).

She works on a range of diverse projects from small ‘gems’ to large masterplans, and she has developed many projects in collaboration with other disciplines as well as artists, writers, sculptors and photographers. In her projects she aims to break new ground and to disseminate the findings .

In an attempt to bridge the gap between education and practice she has developed a number of innovative, cross disciplinary strands within her architectural work that reflect her teaching and research interests
