Charlie has worked in the construction sector for over 30 years, and is the Founder and Managing Director of Sustainable Construction Solutions, a sustainability consultancy which specialises in moving organisations towards a circular economy business model. He has extensive knowledge of the construction industry, through his previous roles in cost management, construction management, training, and sustainability.
Charlie started his career at Andrew Murray Joinery, a subsidiary of Kyle Stewart which grew into BAM Construct, the UK arm of the €9billion turnover Dutch based construction services organisation Royal BAM Group. Prior to setting up his own consultancy, Charlie was Head of Environmental Management at BAM, where he was thought leader in the areas of circular economy thinking, resource efficiency, and responsible timber procurement. Since setting up his consultancy Charlie has worked for clients including HS2, Kier, Lendlease, the Timber Trade Federation and Grown in Britain.
Charlie is also a director of the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA), a member of the Grown in Britain Executive (and former Chair of their Construction Group), and sits on the Ska Technical Committee and CIWM Construction and Demolition Waste Group. He is also a former member of the leadership committee of UK Contractors Group (UKCG) Environmental Sub-group, where he chaired their Waste Working Group, and was vice-chair of the Government’s Greening the Industry Waste Task Group. He was also a council member of the European Network of Construction Companies for Research and Development (ENCORD), and chaired their sustainability working group, during which time he developed the now industry standard Construction CO2e and Waste measurement protocols.
