Dr Kayla Friedman
Dr Kayla Friedman is the Course Director for the MSt Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment (IDBE) at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL). She is a licensed New York State architect and an urban designer who worked in the United States and United Kingdom for over ten years. In 2010, she returned to academia to undertake a PhD sponsored by Grosvenor which looked at ‘Examining English planning as a barrier to the retrofit of conservation properties’. Since completing her PhD, she has dedicated herself to exploring the intersection of practice and academia through the education of working professionals by delivering part-time courses for CISL. Through her own practice, Kayla developed a keen interest in sustainability and the systems thinking that underlies the development of the built environment. She believes strongly in the need for the multiple disciplines and actors within the sector to find better ways of working together to deliver sustainable and resilient places and spaces for the future.
